The Oratory School Society Tennis Match v
The Oratory School.
Played at the school on Sunday 21st May,2000.
This was a first as the Society managed to put
out 4 pairs for this most enjoyable fixture. It was with great
trepidation that one woke on the Sunday as it had been raining
most of Saturday and indeed it was not long before it started to
rain again. However, a call from the school stated that it was
dry, windy and sunny so the team members set off from various
parts of the UK. Sure enough the weather was good although all of
us had driven through driving rain to get there and could not
believe it. Nonetheless we all recalled that the weather over the
O.S. was always contrary to the rest of the country.
The tennis was of its usual high standard and,
although the Society triumphed
15-5, many matches went to a tie-break with
others finishing 7-5 or 6-4. It was a very pleasant relaxed day
helped by the hospitality provided by the school and organised by
Ron Womersley for whom many thanks. I should also like to thank
the captain of the school team. Richard David Cox, for putting out
a competitive team and their contribution to the day. Finally, but
by no means least, my thanks to the Society team: Iain &
Stuart Williams (1st pair),Simon Albuquerque & Richard Anthony
Cox (2nd pair),Tom Bonas & Patrick Donnelly (3rd pair) and
David Connelly & Richard Stewart (4th pair).
We must not rest on our laurels and must look
forward to next year.
