OLD BOYS’ REAL TENNIS

The Old Boys went off to a flying start with a 3-2 victory over Catholic rivals
Old Amplefordians. Taylor and Armstrong saved the day with their victory in
their doubles, levelling the scores (2-2) leaving Herbert to seal the victory.
Our next match was played at the Queen’s Club, where we came up against
Old Tonbridgians. A rusty Old Boys’ team lost 5-2 in the tennis, however
regaining some respect with talents at the bar afterwards.
Our final fixture of the season will be at The Oratory against Old Canfordians
on 15th April.
Henry Leaf Cup (Prested Hall Racket Club)
We entered two pairs this season: Knox and Herbert in division 1, and
Coupland and St Cyres in division 2. Knox and Herbert dispatched.
Charterhouse and Malvern in the group stages. They then dismissed Bedales
in the quarters with an 8-3 drumming. They then came up against the eventual
winners, Canford. The Canford team consisted of the British Amateur
Champion (Spike Willcocks) and the Prested Head Pro. (Matty Ronaldson).
In true Oratory style both pairs found their comfort zone at the bar on the
Saturday night. A thoroughly good weekend of royal tennis was had by all!
This has been an extremely successful first season with all of our fixtures
being oversubscribed. We are increasing the number of fixtures next season,
so please do dust off your racket and come and play for us. There is even a
tour to Paris in the pipeline. My thanks go to Richard Cox for all his support
in getting the old boys r.t. up and running, the professionals at the School, and,
of course, most importantly to the various Old Boys that have played for us:
